Which Liverpool player implored Rodgers to sign Lambert?

The Southampton striker looks like having at least one fan in the Liverpool dressing room next season.

With Rickie Lambert's transfer back to his boyhood club Liverpool from Southampton still yet to be officially confirmed, stories are continuing to emerge on the saga that led the England striker to the brink of his dream move.

With the Kirkby born native set to feature in the Champions League next season, he is likely to be lining up alongside some of the best players in the country, with Brendan Rodgers sure to add further to a squad already capable of running Manchester City all the way for the Premier League title.

The Mirror has reported that one player in particular has been on the Northern Irishman's case over the last few months in order to make a transfer possible.

What's more, it is the most influential player in the Anfield dressing room.

Apparently Steven Gerrard has been instrumental in Lambert's switch, and the forward commented after his medical that he had been speaking to the man already his national captain and set to become his club skipper too.

“I’ve been speaking to Stevie [Gerrard] for a while...the last couple of months. I’ll be able to speak properly about it in the next couple of days,” Lambert said.

“The medical went well. So, hopefully, but as you know, I can’t say anything.”

With the transfer set to be confirmed in the near future, we may be set to find out exactly what happened in those conversations.
