Real Sociedad boss rubbishes Griezmann exit talks

Antoine Griezmann

Real Sociedad boss Jagoba Arrasate believes Arsenal and Liverpool target Antoine Griezmann will remain at the club for an extra season.

French international Antoine Griezmann has attracted a number of top European clubs following an excellent campaign at the Anoeta Stadium.

Amongst the clubs involved are a host of Premier League outfits, with Liverpool and Arsenal leading the queue for his signature.

Antoine Griezmann offers pace and control in abundance, and his 16 La Liga goals in 34 appearances from a wide position is a remarkable return for a team which finished seventh.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his ranks this summer in a bid to tackle the Champions League next season, and the Frenchman’s pace alongside the likes of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling would be a frightening prospect for teams visiting Anfield.

The Reds, however, aren’t alone in their interest as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly a strong admirer.

Following his debut goal for the French national team yesterday, the Gunners boss drew comparisons with former winger Robert Pires. Arsenal lack youthfulness and pace, and Griezmann’s threat in front of goal could certainly help lift the burden placed on Olivier Giroud’s shoulders.

With Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also keen, one would expect the 23-year-old to unquestionably leave the Basque side this summer.

Real Sociedad boss Jogoba Arrasate, however, remains a calm figure as he surprisingly told the press that he understands his star player will still be at the club next season.

“Now, he [Griezmann] is concentrated only on the World Cup, but I understand that he will remain here. He is a player which has a contract with us, therefore he will have to incorporate himself with our discipline. Besides, it’s not easy to pay €30million for a player, and that makes us relatively calm.” He said, quoted by Spanish newspaper AS.
