Spanish boss accepts he could lose 41-goal pair linked with Arsenal

Real Sociedad's coach has refused to rule out the departures of two players heavily linked with Arsenal.

Real Sociedad pair Antoine Griezmann and Carlos Vela have both been linked with Arsenal in recent months and their manager Jagoba Arrasate has refused to categorically deny they could be on their way.

Vela has been tipped to make a £3.3million return to the Emirates Stadium due to a buy-back clause in his contract. While Arsene Wenger has previously revealed that the Gunners have been keeping a close eye on Griezmann’s progress.

Between them, the two players scored 41 goals and provided 19 assists for the Spanish side last season, and it is no surprise that both have been linked with a summer move.

Previous stories have run with quotes from Arrasate where he said he was calm about the situation, given that Vela is said to be happy at Sociedad and Griezmann would command a considerable fee.

However, their current boss tempered those hopes with a dash of realism. After all, he saw Real Madrid pay big money for Asier Illarramendi last season and knows a similar situation could occur 12 months later.

“Something you do not expect can always happen,” Arrasate is quoted as saying by AS.

In other words, if Arsenal – or anyone else for that matter – meet the clauses in place for both players, Sociedad could be powerless to stop them.

In the case of Griezmann especially, given his recent season and the likelihood of starring at the World Cup, surely it is only a matter of time.
