Ronaldo tips Neymar to lead Brazil to World Cup glory

The legendary Selecao striker thinks that the Barcelona superstar can fire his national team to glory in his homeland.

Brazil legend Ronaldo has backed Neymar to lead his national side to a World Cup triumph this summer.

The Barcelona forward endured a largely frustrating season in La Liga last term after his big-money move from Santos, but for his country, the 22-year-old is a man in form.

The Barca star has scored 30 goals in 47 appearances for La Selecao, and the youngster will be expected to perform in his homeland.

Despite the weight of expectation hanging heavy, Ronaldo believes Neymar will be able to thrive under the pressure.

Speaking to PokerStars.com, the two-time World Cup winner said: "Brazil has a great chance to win, not only because we will play in our home country but because we have a very good team, with a solid defence, a midfield that battles very hard and an exceptional player in Neymar, so we have everything in our favour.

"In my opinion, there are four teams that have a great chance to win the World Cup - Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Spain. They are the favourites but we will see. As always the Italian team could win, they have a very strong team. Russia and England should be definitely considered, as they can surprise us. Uruguay is also a very good team, but Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Spain are the strongest."

Fellow World Cup-winning striker Bebeto agrees that Neymar is the big hope for Luiz Felipe Scolari's side.

He added: "Of course we are all hoping that Neymar will set the tournament alight, but there are other great players like Oscar, [Lionel] Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. There are a lot of players that could make the difference, but we have a lot of faith in Neymar."

Brazil get the competition underway in 10 days time, when they play Croatia.
