On this day: Rodgers considers Soldado move, Barca fans to force out Fabregas?

News stories about Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all feature.

The World Cup is firmly in the minds of football fans all over the world, with the tournament in Brazil now just over a week away.

England started their preparations well with a solid 3-0 win over Peru last Friday and focus now falls to the friendly matches against Ecuador and Honduras over the next week.

With no World Cup to talk about last summer, we’ve cast our minds back to this day last year, taking a look at what had fans talking.

‘Liverpool enquire about Soldado’

Brendan Rodgers was reportedly showing an interest in signing then Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

Rodgers has always been on the lookout for ways to back up his combination of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the Liverpool attack.

Soldado eventually went to Tottenham Hotspur, enduring a frustrating first season in English football.

‘Barca fans could drive Fabregas out’

Barcelona fans always put their first team idols under a lot of pressure and this was the case with former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas last summer.

Fabregas was on the receiving end of some stick from Barca fans after a first season back in Spanish football, which saw him fail to oust Xavi from the first team as widely expected.

It created similar ‘return to Arsenal’ rumours, which are being circulated at the moment.

‘Mourinho flies into London’

Jose Mourinho flew into London to seal the finer details of his return to Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese coach cut an unhappy figure during his final season at Real Madrid, which paved the way for his Chelsea return.

Although the Blues didn’t win a trophy last season, Mourinho transformed the look, feel and nature of his squad and first team.
