Liverpool, United target Schmelzer axed by Low ahead of World Cup

Borussia Dortmund star Marcel Schmelzer is among four names to have been cut from Germany's World Cup squad.

Liverpool and Manchester United transfer target Marcel Schmelzer is among four names to have been cut by Jorgi Low, as he announced his 23-man Germany squad to start the World Cup next week.

The Borussia Dortmund left-back has been tipped to solve Liverpool’s left-back problem, while being touted as a natural long term replacement for Manchester United veteran Patrice Evra.

Schmelzer was joined by experienced striker Mario Gomez, Kevin Volland and Sampdoria star Shkodran Mustafi.

The updated squad is as follows;
