A round up of news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Liverpool confirmed the signing of striker Rickie Lambert in a £4 million deal earlier today. Lambert says he hasn’t stopped loving the club since he left when he was just 15-years-old.
“I can’t believe it. I’ve loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago – and I haven’t stopped loving it since,” said the forward.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has explained his reasons for signing Lambert, when the Reds have been linked with several higher profile attacking players since the close of last season.
“It’s only late on in his career – at 29, 30, 31 – that people are really starting to focus on his qualities - Look at his touch, look at the level of his goals, the different types of goals he has scored over his career, and he’s a specialist on penalties as well,” said the boss.
Liverpool have also been tipped to announce a deal for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno. Spanish website and newspaper Marca has suggested that the Reds have agreed a £17 million deal with La Liga side Sevilla, despite interest from European champions Real Madrid.
Southampton have confirmed they aren’t looking to offload any more players before they appoint a new boss, which is a blow for Liverpool’s interest in another Saints star. The Reds are believed to be one of the clubs to have made a big money offer for England international Adam Lallana.
The Metro has produced a quite astonishing link suggesting star striker Luis Suarez could be on his way to Manchester United. The Red Devils are thought to be keen on a £65 million deal, which would be one of football’s most remarkable transfers if Liverpool accepted the deal.
The father of Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic has claimed his son has three transfer offers to consider and none are from the Reds. Liverpool are one of the sides linked with making a move for him in the summer transfer market.
“Right now his brother Dejan, who looks after his career, has offers from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Whatever happens though, nothing will be decided until after the World Cup. After that, the conversations will begin,” ISF quotes Luka Rakitic.
The Reds remain linked with another La Liga based player; Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas. The Catalan press published stories this morning, which suggested the former Gunner had agreed to join a Premier League side, with Liverpool still in the hunt to sign him.
Portuguese giants FC Porto are thought to be in the race to land Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello. Tello is thought to be eager on playing regular first team football and while Rodgers could offer him a role down Liverpool’s left hand side, Porto are also hot on his trail.
