Fabregas has been linked with a return to the Premier League following reports that he has been told he can leave the Nou Camp this summer.
The Spaniard has been linked with several sides in the Premier League including the Reds, along with his former club Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Fowler told TalkSport that the 27-year-old would suit the way Liverpool play.
The Liverpool legend said: “Fabregas is a player I’ve always liked. When those kind of players become available you always want to sign them.
“Fabregas is a world recognised player and he would suit the Liverpool system.”
The midfielder’s future certainly seems to be up in the air but at this stage of the transfer window he has been linked with several clubs, leaving the football world none the wiser when it comes to where he may be playing his football next season.
Fabregas could be a good signing for Liverpool given his versatility, which is something that Brendan Rodgers admires. At 27 he will still have a lot of football left in him, Rodgers’ prime transfer target in Adam Lallana is 26 can play a similar role.
Fabregas would certainly represent a more glamorous option along with a good degree of pedigree having been part of a very successful Spain side at international level, along with winning the La Liga title with Barcelona – and winning the FA Cup at a young age at Arsenal.
It doesn’t seem likely that such a move will happen, but it would be one that makes a lot of sense, especially if the price was right.
