Reds fans in the main seem pleased with their first deal of the summer.
Liverpool have made their first signing of the summer and it will probably turn out to be one of the most unexpected.
As news broke towards the end of last week that the Reds were enquiring about bringing Rickie Lambert back to Merseyside from Southampton at the age of 32 - 17 years after he was released from the club - it only seemed a matter of time before it was confirmed.
On Monday morning it was made official as it was announced Lambert was a Liverpool player for a fee believed to be around £4 million.
For many it seems to be regarded as a fairytale story, and possibly where he will conclude his career – which could be regarded as a fitting end after climbing the league ladder, which has included two promotions with Southampton as they reached the Premier League.
Next season Lambert will be part of a squad aiming to build on their second place finish from last season, and will have the opportunity to play Champions League football.
So, here is what Liverpool fans had to say on twitter about the latest addition to their squad:
Rickie Lambert isnt a signing to strengthen our first 11, he's back-up and adds a different dimension, very clever signing.— DeadStockGrime (@OfMindOfGrime) June 2, 2014
Made up for Rickie Lambert and at 4m that's a good bit of business #lfc— Spencer JFT96 (@TheRedTsar) June 2, 2014
Ricky Lambert is scouse, loves the club and scores goals. £4m is an absolute bargain for a player who will go on to be a cult hero for @LFC— Lindzell (@Lindzell_LFC) June 2, 2014
