Reports indicate Ally McCoist could be about to make St Mirren star Darren McGregor his first signing of the summer with the defender joining on a free.
Glasgow Rangers are already busy preparing for next season in the Scottish Championship with the potential recruitment of defender Darren McGregor.
The 28-year-old is available on a free this summer after seeing out his contract at current club St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
According to a report from the Express Sport, Ally McCoist is thought to be keen on recruiting the Buddies hero for next term.
And while a move to Rangers will represent a step down in terms of league status, the offer of playing for the Glasgow giants is likely to be too good for the Edinburgh-born player to refuse.
The Gers could face some competition to land the defender though, with newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side Dundee thought to be keen on the player as well as hometown club Hearts.
McGregor is the latest star to be linked with a summer move to Ibrox, with Rangers recently rumoured to be close to completing a deal for former fan favourite Kenny Miller.
The ex-Wolves striker may not be the only old face returning to the club, amid rumours linking Kris Boyd with a move back to the Glasgow giants.
While no official offer has yet been made, the Kilmarnock man could well be open to a move, after impressing for Killie last term.
Boyd racked up a solid 22 goals in 36 games for the Scottish side – his best return since the 2009-10 campaign at Rangers, when he managed 23 goals in 31 games before signing for Middlesbrough.
Having been recalled to the Scotland squad for a friendly last November, the opportunity to help Rangers return to the big time could also see Boyd back in the picture at international level.
To date, Boyd has scored seven goals in 18 appearances for Scotland.
