A new report implies that Queens Park Rangers could be favourites for Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams.
Swansea City star Ashley Williams, who is entering the final year of his Liberty Stadium contract, could be one of a number of stars leaving the Welsh club in the upcoming transfer market, however, the centre back could be joining Queens Park Rangers in a conservative £4 million deal, rather than Arsenal, as had been previously reported.
Is Arsene Wenger missing a trick if he does not recruit the defender?
Tertiary centre back choice at the Emirates Stadium, Thomas Vermaelen, has been perpetually linked with a North London exit, with clubs as varied as Manchester City and AS Roma linked with the Belgium stopper.
Should the Gunners captain choose to move in pursuit of first team football, Arsenal would be without experienced back up to preferred partnership Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
Williams would represent a good option for Wenger, as he has leadership skills and is experienced in Premier League competition. In a recent HITC: Sport report, the "bargain target" was even compared favourably to all established Arsenal defenders, while also - statistically-speaking - rivalling players such as John Terry, Jan Vertonghen and Martin Skrtel.
The Daily Mail, though, imply QPR will be the ones who capture Williams in the summer market, with Swansea ready to listen to offers now, rather than lose him on a free transfer when his contract expires next year.
