What would £12m Liverpool transfer target offer to Manchester United?

England V Ukraine

Manchester United have been linked with a £12m swoop for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, but what does he offer?

With the appointment of Louis van Gaal now confirmed, the Red Devils can begin planning for an important summer. Following a terrible season under David Moyes, United must spend heavily to solve the many problems in their team, with van Gaal widely expected to splash the cash this summer.

United have a number of problem areas such as the centre of defence and midfield, but having seen the likes of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Nani all struggle to perform on a consistent basis over the last couple of seasons, United should also be looking to add at least one more winger to pair with Adnan Januzaj.

Subsequently, Ukrainian winger Konoplyanka has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford after impressing with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. The 24-year-old has a growing reputation around Europe and was heavily tipped to sign for United rivals Liverpool in January, but the Reds ran out of time to secure the deal.

Given that he's not a household name in England just yet, what can United fans expect if they do sign Konoplyanka this summer?

The winger usually plays on the left hand side yet he's right footed, meaning he prefers to cut inside. Able to work promising angles for shots and crosses, Konoplyanka is at his best when coming infield, and he showed this in the World Cup qualifier for Ukraine against England at Wembley.

Whilst he doesn't possess blazing speed, Konoplyanka does have a change of pace that enables him to beat full backs on a regular basis, and he's also able to get quality in to the box on a regular basis. Ukrainians may have had trouble adapting to English football previously, but Konoplyanka appears to have the athleticism and technique to be a success.

At just £12m, Konoplyanka appears to be good value for United, and would immediately inject some much needed quality into the wide areas where Young, Valencia and Nani have struggled to do in recent years.
