Talented Cagliari centre-back Davide Astori has been linked with a number of clubs this season, including the likes of Manchester United, Galatasary and Napoli.
Cagliari’s president Massimo Cellino, however, is interested in taking the player with him to his newly owned Leeds United.
The Whites are in dire need of quality after a mediocre campaign where they fell a long way short of the Playoffs, and tempting Davide Astori to the club would certainly blow the Championship wide open.
The 27-year-old offers strength, awareness and leadership at the back, and whilst he is far too good for Championship football, Leeds United’s new boss Massimo Cellino appears to have big plans for the club.
The Italian side had a disappointing campaign last season, finishing in ninth spot as they shipped a total of 54 goals. A defender appears a priority this summer, with Leeds United owner Cellino’s star player the man in question.
Astori has been with Cagliari since 2008, and he has gone on to make 140 appearances for the club.
As far as Leeds are concerned, following the departure of recent manager Brian McDermott, finding a suitable coach who can come in and organise the playing staff appears the first summer priority.
Then Massimo Cellino can pursue his ambitious signings as he bids to return the club to the Premier League.
