A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United are set for a huge spending spree this summer according to the Mail on Sunday.

New manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly targeting at least six new arrivals in a spend that could reach £220million.

Luke Shaw’s arrival from Southampton for £27million is tipped to go through next week, with Mats Hummels, Kevin Strootman, Cesc Fabregas, Koke and Miranda also linked.

In truth there is absolutely no chance all those players will arrive – not least because they would cost well in excess of the huge budget van Gaal has reportedly been given. But United fans can expect these rumours to go on for some time to come.

Of the players listed above, Shaw appears the most likely, with Miranda also a viable target given his release-clause. But Strootman’s name just will not go away – despite Roma believed to be unwilling to sell – and the Dutch international is reportedly van Gaal’s number one target according to the Express.

He would certainly improve United’s midfield considerably, but it is for that very reason that the club will find it hard to prise him away from Italy.

And finally, Spanish newspaper AS claims that United have had a bid rejected for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.

The report adds that van Gaal’s side are likely to return with an improved offer in due course, along with the other interested parties including Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
