Man United to play lucrative January friendly to raise money – report

The Old Trafford side could well be off to Dubai or Qatar in early 2015 to play an exhibition game and raise funds.

Manchester United missed out on Champions League qualification in 2013-14, and although this has prestige issues on the pitch, the financial constraints away from the action are also a concern.

As such, it is believed that the Old Trafford bean counters are envisaging new ways of making revenue to make up for the loss of Champions League prize money.

The Mirror has suggested today that the outgoing Premier League champions want to play a glamour friendly in the Middle East in January as a way of increasing profits.

With no European football to clog the fixture list, it is imagined that United players will be fresher than their top-of-the-table opposition and could fit in an extra game in either Dubai or Qatar in early 2015.

Milan giants AC or Inter are being touted as potential opposition.

The potential loss in revenue could be as much as £30 million for missing out on Europe’s top tournament.
