England manager Roy Hodgson appears to have confirmed that Liverpool have their first signing of the summer in the form of Rickie Lambert.
The Southampton striker completed his medical on Saturday, ahead of a proposed £4million move. But the 32-year-old was reluctant to say anything until the deal had been ratified.
However, his international boss has already congratulated both the player and his apparent new club.
In quotes published by the Express, Hodgson said, “Yes, I congratulate him. And I congratulate Liverpool signing a good player.”
While Reds fans may have to wait until next week for the news to be confirmed, Hodgson went on to imply that it was already a done deal.
“When he plays you will see a fella running around with all the joy that his heart can muster because he is very happy to be with England and he’s very happy that the move to Liverpool has gone through," Hodgson added.
It has been a whirlwind few days for Lambert and he will now head to Brazil knowing that he is in for quite an adventure next season.
But for now his focus will be back on international matters, and the possibility of teaming up for the Three Lions with his likely future club-mate Daniel Sturridge.
