De Gea wishes United teammate happy birthday – for the last time?

David Gea saves against Sunderland

David de Gea hails his Manchester United teammate Javier Hernandez on his 26th birthday.

Javier Hernandez is Manchester United’s forgotten man. Having joined the Red Devils from Guadalajara back in 2010, the Mexico international has been relegated to the status of a bit-part player.

Hernandez is celebrating his 26th birthday today, and his teammates – at least one of them anyway – has not forgotten it: David de Gea.

The message from the Spain international goalkeeper will come as a boost for Hernandez. The Mexican was heralded as ‘the next big thing’ in the Premier League when he arrived in England four years ago, but over the years competition for places has seen his importance for the Red Devils dwindle.

There have been suggestions that this summer Hernandez will finally leave. With a new manager (Louis van Gaal) coming in and the dawn of a new era, the Mexican is likely to find his playing time reduced even further.

According to The Mirror, Valencia are interested in signing Hernandez. The Spanish club are being bankrolled by their new billionaire owner Peter Lim and are keen on re-establishing themselves as a force in La Liga.

United wouldn’t be too unwilling to let one of their fringe players leave if they get a decent offer. And perhaps Hernandez will accept it too. After all, after four years in the shadows and having seen his progress severely curtailed, he will look to move on and fulfil his potential.

Perhaps this is the last time Hernandez is celebrating his birthday as a United player.
