Tottenham Hotspur play-maker Christian Eriksen has been talking about his first season at White Hart Lane.
In an interview with Danish newspaper BT, the former Ajax player spoke about proving the doubters wrong following his summer move and the comparisons with Arsenal’s club-record signing Mesut Ozil.
“It has been a new and exciting year where I have lived for the moment,” Eriksen said.
“There was much speculation about whether I would fit. I thought I would fit in well, and I think that has been proven.”
Eriksen shone in the second half of the campaign, and finished the season with 12 goals and 16 assists. And at just 22, there is the suggestion Tottenham fans have seen nothing yet.
The Danish international arrived in North London in the same summer as Arsenal’s £42.4million signing Mesut Ozil. And Eriksen spoke about the comparisons some fans make between them.
“Ozil is a very good player and I still have a little way to go with what he has achieved in Germany and Madrid.
“He also needs to get used to a good league. But again, he helped to win something they have not done in many years.”
That is the next step for Eriksen – to inspire Tottenham to a trophy. But he can only do so much, and he will be hopeful his current teammates and a number of new arrivals can help him reach that goal.
