Barcelona want €12million for want-away-winger Cristian Tello according to a report in Portugal.
Newspaper O Jogo published the news on Sunday morning, along with links to a possible move to FC Porto. But for a player long-linked with a potential transfer to Liverpool, it would come as quite a surprise if he instead opted for a stint in the Primeira Liga.
Tello has a contract until 2018, but it seems his time at Barcelona is coming to an end with insufficient game-time and the huge array of talented ahead of him in the pecking-order.
The appointment of Luis Enrique could prompt a change of fortune for the 22-year-old. But the latest report suggests his time at the Nou Camp is all but over. And if that is indeed the case, should Liverpool move in once again?
Previous reports have claimed Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of Tello, and it is no secret the Reds are keen to strengthen on the left-wing, with Yevhen Konoplyanka most recently linked with a move to Anfield.
But now the Ukraine international is said to be on Manchester United’s wish-list, so if Liverpool miss out – or indeed if they are no longer interested – Tello could be a very good alternative, and for a cut-price fee.
Rodgers may have moved on. But if he does maintain an interest in the talented Spaniard, now could be the time to make his move, allowing Tello the stage on which to finally show what he can do on a consistent basis.
