Much has been made of the relationship between Manchester United striker Robin van Persie and that of the impending United boss Louis van Gaal. The pair were often seen taking in football games together whilst the striker was recently injured - and apparently their wives go shopping for clothes together.
So of course when van Gaal got the job many rumbled about that previous relationship and what it meant.
For instance, it is now widely believed that RvP will receive the captains armband for next season. He has done it before with Arsenal and guess who made him captain of the Dutch national side - van Gaal.
The pair have been keen to play down their friendship in light of their new working circumstances. However van Gaal has called him a great captain and van Persie has sung the praises of his new boss on several occasions - there is no doubt both are happy with this arrangement.
But for those worried a boys club mentality might sneak in for the striker think again. Because the friendship clearly benefits him on the pitch.
Just look at his record under van Gaal for the Dutch national team - as shared by OptaJohan on Twitter:
14 - @Persie_Official has racked up 14 goals and 3 assists in the 16 games he has played for Oranje under Louis van Gaal. Trust.— OptaJohan (@OptaJohan) June 1, 2014
Those are quite incredible stats. His most latest goal came last night against Ghana. Not a single Manchester United fan will be complaining if photos of Mrs RvP and LvG appear, the pair buying new Donna Karan bags together, if van Persie replicates this sort of form for The Red Devils.
