Liverpool transfer news: £20m defender offer; ex-star hails £4m striker move

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool will reportedly complete a £4million deal for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert by Monday night.

Following the stories in recent days linking the England international with a move to Anfield, the Mirror claims Lambert will have his medical this weekend prior to the transfer being announced.

It is a move that former Liverpool striker John Aldridge thinks would add something to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said, “Christmas has come early for Rickie and I’m absolutely made up for him. He will give us that bit of a Plan B which we didn’t have last season.”

In other news, the Mirror reports that Liverpool are hopeful of signing Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno in the next seven days.

The Reds have reportedly submitted a £20million offer, which includes £15million cash and £5million-rated Spanish winger Suso.

Moreno is also believed to be on the radar of Real Madrid, and his signing would be a huge coup for Rodgers.

His arrival would also solve the long-standing problem at left-back, and allow Jon Flanagan to develop in his favoured role on the right side of defence.
