Has Van Gaal given away United's transfer plans with his Dutch squad?

Louis van Gaal has taken Memphis Depay and not Quincy Promes to the World Cup in Brazil.

Manchester United need improvement across the entire team, including out wide. Shinji Kagawa and Juan Mata are not wide men while Ashley Young and Nani have been poor this season - Adnan Januzaj offers a shining light but the flanks need to be addressed.

And they have been linked with two currently in the Dutch national side.

Today saw future Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal take care of current affairs by cutting his Netherlands squad down from 30 to the final 23. The seven players told thanks, but no thanks, were Rafael van der Vaart (withdrew because of injury) Patrick van Aanholt, Jeroen Zoet, Karim Rekik, Tonny Vilhena, Jean-Paul Boetius and finally Quincy Promes - and it is the last name on that list that strikes a chord.

Promes has been linked with a move to United after the World Cup, as LvG is being linked with several Dutch players at the moment. The FC Twente winger stunned Scotland under-21s this week with an incredible first-half hat-trick and after game admitted he would want to play in Manchester.

However the future United boss has decided to leave him at home - and take another United linked winger instead.

For all of Promes' unhappiness there is unbridled joy in the Memphis Depay household. The PSV Eindhoven star has recently been linked with a summer switch to United and both are very similar players.

The fact that van Gaal has decided to take Depay over Promes surely shows us that he rates the PSV man higher than the Twente star.

So has he given the game away on his winger transfer plans? That might just be the case.
