Gunners supporters rejoice in Wenger's contract extension but urge the boss to now ensure the latest transfer rumours and news become reality…
Arsenal mainstay Arsene Wenger has reaffirmed his loyalty to the North London club by signing a three-year extension to his previous contract that was due to expire next month. He will now be committed to the Gunners until 2017, by which point he will have been boss for 21 years.
Wenger has overseen 1,010 matches in all competitions, 586 of those were victories against 225 draws and 199 losses. His attacking brand of football, his own version of tiki-taka - or Wengerball - has seen nets bulge 1,864 times, while there have been 977 goals conceded.
Wenger is a three-time Premier League titlist and, out of the 11 FA Cup victories in Arsenal's hall-of-fame, five of those have arrived in the Wenger-era. He has also won the Community Shield four times. And, of the 820 senior-level footballers to have represented the club in a professional match, 23% of those have played under Wenger.
While no man is bigger than the club, the man has certainly made the club bigger and it is no wonder why Arsenal's supporters have celebrated his contract extension.
For a lot of fans it represents a significant signing - yet they hope it is not the first signature on a deal this summer, with calls for Angel di Maria, Seamus Coleman, Loic Remy, Antoine Grizemann, Juanfran, Cesc Fabregas and Mario Balotelli all made.
