Thibaut Courtois has yet to say his goodbyes to Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid loan star Thibaut Courtois is expected to return to Chelsea this summer following yet another fabulous season in the Spanish capital.
The Belgian international became one of Europe’s most recognised players after winning La Liga with the Champions League finalists, and he seems keen on staying at the club.
The Blues, however, have publicly announced their desire for Courtois to return to Stamford Bridge and challenge Petr Cech for the number one spot next season.
According to Spanish daily sports newspaper AS, despite Chelsea’s wishes, the 22-year-old shot-stopper is holding slim hopes of a return to Atletico next season and has so far refused to say his goodbyes to both his teammates and the club’s supporters.
'I haven’t made any sort of goodbye, I just went to the bank to do some things', he responded, when asked if he returned to the Vicente Calderon to bid farewell.
Courtois then spoke about his immediate future and insisted on thinking only about the World Cup before any decision can be made.
'We will speak after the World Cup, we will speak with Chelsea', he said. 'I am very happy here, I love living here, but sometimes you have to think about the sport. We will see what happens. I can’t say right now, first comes the World Cup'.
Courtois kept 20 clean sheets in the league as he helped Diego Simeone’s side win their first La Liga title since 1996.
On the other hand, Chelsea finished the season trophy-less and manager Jose Mourinho is expected to make a number of changes this summer in a bid to start a new era at the club.
