Manchester United have been heavily linked with a number of Atletico Madrid players over the last couple of weeks. They reportedly want to meet the release clause for Koke and they are also said keen on defender Miranda.
And an Atletico player is currently in Manchester having a medical, but not for a move to United. No this Atletico star is having his medical with Manchester City. Although, he isn't signing for them either. Confused? Me too.
The player in question is Spain's record goalscorer David Villa and he is currently having his medical under the supervision of Manchester City's staff - according to a report in Goal.
However the player will not be joining City, he will in fact be joining the team they own in Major League Soccer - New York City FC.
Villa is set to become the marquee designated player at the newest MLS outfit, becoming the first star tomove to City's Big Apple franchise. It is also suggested that Villa will train with City until March 2015, when the deal will become official, although that does seem a complicated and unlikely scenario it is not beyond the realms of possibility.
For Villa it is a great move at the right time in his career. He has lost a yard of pace since his recent injury woes and a move to MLS with a brand new team is the type of exciting career choice every player should want when they are approaching the twilight of their careers.
Time will have to tell if United have a Los Colchoneros player going through the paces at Carrington at some point this summer.
