It looks as though a dream move is in the pipeline for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert, as Liverpool look set to gamble on the England international this summer. The former Liverpool trainee was released as a 15-year-old by the Reds but has found his way back to the top via Blackpool, Macclesfield, Stockport, Bristol Rovers and on the South Coast with Southampton.
But the Kirkby born 32-year-old is still a Liverpudlian at heart and the dream of playing in front of the Kop, for a Liverpool fan, will surely be worth playing third fiddle to Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. The lure of Champions League football will also have helped.
During his time at St Marys he has scored some wonderful goals and also had an incredible ability to score from the penalty spot. He now looks set to leave the club with that record firmly in tact.
Couple these factors with the fact he has the famous number '7' on his back and it is no winder so many compared his impact to that of club legend Matthew Le Tissier.
Perhaps one of the most gifted players this country has ever produced the legendary Saints attacker has now had his say on the Lambert issue via Twitter - asserting that the club will go on with out their talismanic forward:
Lets not panic about possible exits until you see how the funds are reinvested in the squad and see how we look when season starts— Matt Le Tissier (@mattletiss7) May 29, 2014
