Could Pochettino get revenge on Mourinho and beat him to former Espanyol star?

White Hart Lane 6

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino may look to inflict revenge on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and pip him to the signing of target Jose Callejon.

According to recent reports, Jose Mourinho could look to sign former Real Madrid striker Jose Callejon as he looks to rebuild his misfiring Chelsea front line.

For people who don't know, Jose Mourinho re-signing Jose Callejon from Espanyol in 2011 was arguably the major factor in Pochettino losing his first job in management. It certainly took away the quality the Argentine struggled to replace and ultimately played a huge part in their downward spiral. Callejon, however, went on to become a prominent figure in Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid side.

When Mourinho left for Chelsea, Callejon was quickly moved on to Serie A title challengers Napoli for a fee believed to be around €10 million. The size of the transfer and the interest in the player perhaps meant Pochettino, whilst at Southampton, would have struggled to convince the player of a move to England.

However, with a transfer budget of around £50 million to spend, it is plausible he may go heat-to-head with Mourinho for his former star. And a player, by all accounts, he knows and trusts.

Based on his current form in Italy, he could be just the man Pochettino could look to sign if he is looking for attacking players in the wide positions. Which, if rumours are to be believed, he may well be since Townsend could leave to join Queens Park Rangers.

The 27-year-old scored 15 goals in 37 appearances last season for Napoli, mainly from a wide-right attacking midfielder position. He also contributed 6 assists along the way to his sides comfortable 3rd placed finish.

He is a player that was touted for the very top but struggled to ever reach his full potential; however, in the last few months he has looked anything put a player that has already hit his peak.
