Napoli may challenge Arsenal for Pantilimon

Napoli are looking at replacements for Pepe Reina and they could turn to Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

It is being suggested in Romania that Napoli will turn their attentions to Costel Pantilimon to fill the gap left by the departure of Pepe Reina.

Napoli took Reina on a season-long loan from Liverpool for the 2013-14 campaign and he excelled at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Azzurri have made efforts to bring Reina in permanently and appear to have agreed a provisional deal with Liverpool.

But the Spanish international's wage bill is prohibitive for Napoli and they are said to be ready to move on to other targets.

Real Madrid's Diego Lopez has been suggested and now Romanian magazine Ziare suggests that Napoli are eyeing Manchester City man Costel Pantilimon.

The 27-year-old is also being tipped to join Arsenal after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski and Emiliano Viviano's loan coming to an end.

Apart from a brief spell when he took the No 1 position, goalkeeping giant Pantilimon has mainly been back-up to Joe Hart and his contract is set to expire in June.

It is widely believed that City will allow Pantilimon to leave as a free agent, which would make him an attractive proposition to Napoli.

Pantilimon's wage bill would also be manageable for the Italian side, but they may not be able to compete should Arsenal step in.
