Miranda's agent makes contact with club: Not Manchester United

Claimed Manchester United target Miranda appears more likely to head to Barcelona.

Brazilian defender Miranda became a surprise candidate to switch to Manchester United this week, but how likely that is remains in question.

Spanish newspaper AS reported a day ago that Miranda was so keen on a move to Manchester he had even begun looking at schools for his children to attend in the city.

Yet a conflicting report in Marca yesterday does not even acknowledge United's supposed interest, and has the Atletico Madrid man pegged to go to Barcelona instead.

The report states: "Barcelona made first contact with the defender's agent on Wednesday in an attempt to negotiate the personal terms of his new contract."

Miranda, 29, is regarded as a top target for the Spanish side in terms of replacing Carles Puyol. Having missed out on David Luiz, they are apparently eyeing the Atletico man along with another Brazilian, PSG prospect Marquinhos.

United's interest in Miranda was discredited by reports in The Mail and Telegraph which claimed interest was not genuine, and his agent's discussions with Barcelona indicates they are in fact the club the player himself has his eye on.

Miranda has a release clause of 30 million in his contract, and signed on a free three years ago from Brazilian side Sao Paulo
