According to reports in Italy, the 29-year-old Brazilian is set to secure an imminent transfer to Roma from Barcelona for £8 million.
The former Sevilla fullback had been a target for Liverpool in recent weeks after finding his status at the Camp Nou under threat with a limited access to first team football with the Catalans.
Subsequently, he has made just one appearance for Brazil in the past 18 months and has not been included in the squad for the World Cup his country hosts this summer. Things could be looking up for Adriano if reports of a move to Serie A are accurate, though.
Liverpool may have considered Adriano an alternative target to more coveted options such as Southampton and England starlet Luke Shaw and Sevilla youngster Alberto Moreno.
Brendan Rodgers may have to widen his search for a left back this summer if reports that both Chelsea and Manchester United remain favourites in the race to sign Shaw but recent reports of a £16 million bid for Moreno could soften the blow of missing out on the Barcelona man headed for the Italian capital.
Despite the additional costs attached to Moreno, the Spain international would certainly represent a buy for the future at Anfield and, in no uncertain terms, Adriano's move to Italy is more of a case of the player being ousted from the team at Catalonia and, as such, Liverpool will have themselves the better signing, despite his lack of experience.
