Tottenham latest, Pochettino said to raid old club for midfielder, defender ready to compete

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Friday evening

Tottenham are prepared to make a bid for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama according to TalkSport.

Wanyama was quite vocal in his criticism of Southampton after Mauricio Pochettino left the club to take up the role as Head Coach at White Hart Lane, and TalkSport have picked up on a report from Calciomercato suggesting Pochettino would like to sign the midfielder.

Dnipro have said they are ‘powerless’ to keep hold of Tottenham target Yevhen Konoplyanka according to a report in the Daily Express.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, it seems that Manchester United are firm favourites to sign the Ukrainian winger, whilst interest from Liverpool seems to have cooled after they came close to signing the 24-year-old in January.

Dnipro’s sporting director Andrey Stetsenko is quoted saying: “Officially, there is a specific amount for which we don’t have the right to not release Konoplyanka.”

That amount is said to be £12m.

Defender Zeki Fryers has told the Tottenham website he is ready to compete for his place in the side next season after a debut season which has brought about 16 appearances.

The 21-year-old said: “There’s been a lot of competition in each position and there’s not one position that you can say is guaranteed.

“What’s helped over the season is that I can fill in at centre-back and also play at left-back so I can mix my games up.”

One defender who looks set to leave White Hart Lane is Vlad Chiriches, with Fiorentina said to be interested, according to TalkSport.

His agent, Florin Manea is quoted, saying: “I don’t know if he’ll stay in England this summer as he didn’t play much.

“I think he will end up at Fiorentina.”
