The top five players linked with signing for Manchester United this week: Miranda, Morata and more

Olt Trafford Outside

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Feyenoord and PSG stars all feature.

Louis van Gaal may not step into his Old Trafford office until some time in July but that doesn’t appear to have stopped him going after big name players to add to his squad this summer.

United are in the unique position where they can draw on a lot of wealth this summer, regardless of the fact they are not a Champions League side. They can dig in and still attract some top talent.

Here are five of the best players linked with signing for United from the past week.

Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona)

Fabregas remains consistently linked with United. He’d be a great addition to their midfield and someone who could control the pace and tempo of the attacking play. Whether Arsenal choose to ignore their first option to re-buy him is something that United would be relying on with any deal.

Joao Miranda (Atletico Madrid)

Miranda would be a good signing to come in and solidify the centre of United’s defence. The side has just lost a lot of experience through the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand which means the back four does need some extra signings ahead of next season.

Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid)

Morata is thought to be keen on the prospect of a move to United. United have plenty of decent striker options but if van Gaal decides to sell anyone this summer, that will create a need for him to bring in attacking support and Morata could well be that front man.

Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord)

One of the best talents in Dutch football at the moment, Clasie remains linked with an Old Trafford switch. His agent says there’s been no contact from United, but Clasie is thought to be honoured by the speculation linking him with a playing role under van Gaal next season.

Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain)

A long term target for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but United seem keen to snap him up. This would be a signing for the future more than anything and would depend on Rabiot’s mother, one of his main advisers. It would be a huge statement of intent if United could sign him ahead of their Premier League rivals.
