On this day: United want Fabregas, Courtois 'the best' and Henry critical

Cesc Fabregas Spain

On the 29th May 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 29th May 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 29th May 2013…

Henry not pleased

A year ago today and Thierry Henry was criticising Arsenal for the way their players celebrated defeating Tottenham to fourth spot on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Gunners celebrated like they had won a trophy when qualifying for the Champions League was essentially all they had achieved - which infuriated many a neutral and Arsenal fan.

Henry included, stating:

"Putting Tottenham out of the top four, and I really do hope that's what they were celebrating about, that's the only thing you can celebrate. If you're an Arsenal man through and through, that's like winning something. Yes, they finished in the top four, but there is only one champion - Man United. I'm a competitor so that's the only thing I will remember from the season - Man United won the league. You're going to have to do better than what United did this year."

Say Wat!

Former Rangers and PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus was talking about Chelsea loanee Thibaut Courtois - suggesting he was the best goalkeeper in the world.

When asked whether he felt Bayern Munich stopper Manuel Neuer was the best in between the sticks at the moment he said no, instead stating:

"No. Thibaut Courtois is the best and he is only 21 years old."

Chelsea are believed to want him back this summer, however the on loan Atletico Madrid man is said to want assurances over his first-team action - something Chelsea are not ready to do.

Moyes wants Fab midfielder

The first reports began to emanate a year ago today that Manchester United wanted Cesc Fabregas of Barcelona. The former Arsenal captain was reportedly being courted heavily by David Moyes, who was said to be a big fan of the player. In the end Fabregas refused a move, instead committing his future to Barcelona for the time being.

A year on and Fabregas is now believed to be keen on a move, but new United boss Louis van Gaal does not want him.
