It has not been the ideal season from Lucas Leiva's point of view. The Brazilian midfielder has had to watch Steven Gerrard make his holding midfield position his own whilst struggling with a knee injury since the turn of the year.
He therefore did not get back into action with enough time to spare to impress Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari - and has not been selected as part of the Brazilian national team for a home World Cup this summer.
Lucas is now back in Brazil regardless enjoying his summer holidays but unfortunately his day took a nasty turn yesterday. Lucas became embroiled in a nasty incident with a Twitter troll yesterday who suggested Liverpool had sold the player for £3 and a packet of midget gems.
Lucas bit back in a private message, which has been picked up by many outlets.
Lucas, like many professional footballers today, enjoys using Twitter and social media to get in touch with their fans and that is certainly one of the plus points of its continued use.
Unfortunately for Lucas he has seen the other side of Twitter when you are a public figure.
And now he has gone into more detail on the issue through Twitter - insisting he is now trying to enjoy his time off after what has been a tough 24 hours...
I just want to clarify that I don't know why few people abusing me here. I always used twitter to be closer to my fans nothing else...— Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) May 28, 2014
If someone is trying to change it , it won't happen I have a lot of respect for the fans who support me and the ones who don't I don't care.— Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) May 28, 2014
I just want to enjoy my break now. Thanks— Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) May 28, 2014
