Arsenal’s £42.5 million signing Mesut Ozil has been named Premier League signing of the season, after a surprise result in a recent poll.
The official Premier League website published a poll earlier this week asking for fans of all clubs to vote on who had been the best incoming transfer of the campaign.
Romelu Lukaku, Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Bony all received their fair share of votes, but Arsenal star Mesut Ozil was the unexpected winner of the accolade.
The German midfielder proved the outright victor of the poll, accumulating a vote percentage of 49%.
His arrival has been received by a mixed reaction and following a fantastic start to the campaign, his performances appeared suffer under the weight of expectation that accompanied his transfer fee.
Overall, Ozil has experienced a decent season, but he hasn’t exactly set the world alight.
Chelsea loanee, Romelu Lukaku, finished second after an impressive season at Goodison Park, with Everton. Throughout an important period of transition for the Toffees, the Belgian striker contributed a vital 15 goals.
Meanwhile, Swansea’s Wilfried Bony completed the top three, having scooped 15% of the vote. He netted an incredible 17 times this term as he fired the Welsh side to Premier League safety.
