The Spanish side are seeking to recruit Real Sociedad goalkeeper and Chile number one Claudio Bravo.
It is being reported that Barcelona are on the cusp of signing Real Sociedad goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
Having seemingly learned from their recent mistakes, Barcelona are currently in the middle of negotiations to sign a second top class keeper to bolster their limited staff in that positions.
For the last few months of this season, Barca had to make do with the rather panicky goalkeeping of reserve Jose Pinto, with regular number one Victor Valdes out with a long term injury. Pinto was in goal as the Spanish giants exited the Champions League at the quarter final stage, and was also between the sticks as Gerard Martino's side failed to capitalise on Atletico's dropped points in the race for the La Liga title.
With both Valdes and Pinto leaving the club after their contracts expired, Barca have already brought in one of the world's most promising goalkeeping talents in Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Perhaps having seen how rivals Real Madrid have benefitted from having two excellent goalkeepers, they are now adding 31-year-old Chilean stopper Bravo in order to provide some experience and competition to the German. Having two quality players in the position should allow Barca to ease Ter Stegen into La Liga life, as well as providing someone that can come in and seize the jersey themselves if the youngster suffers a dip in form.
It is tough news for Liverpool, who were rumoured to be considering Bravo themselves after Simon Mignolet finished the Premier League season as one of the few perceived opportunities for Brendan Rodgers to improve his Reds side.
Rodgers will now have to look elsewhere to strengthen his goalkeeping ranks.
