Tottenham's odds shorten for Saints star, Arsenal remain favourites

Arsenal v Southampton 2012 Pregame with Schneiderlin

BetVictor have slashed the odds on Tottenham signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin but Arsenal remain heavy evens favourites for his signature.

In light of the Mauricio Pochettino joining Tottenham, BetVictor have cut Spurs' odds to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Although the odds on Tottenham landing the French star have been slashed by more than a third, it is their North London rivals, Arsenal, who remain in the driving seat, according to the bookmakers. However, if the claim by The Telegraph rings true and Pochettino is to be given £50m to spend this summer then you would argue the smart money would be on Tottenham signing the 24-year-old, if Pochettino wants to take him with him.

Schneiderlin, 24, was a key figure in Pochettino's team last season and was instrumental in their highly-respectable 8th-placed finish. Which was just eight points off the previous season's champions Manchester United.

A defensive midfielder by trade, the former French under-21 international isn't renowned for his assists or his goals, but more of his contribution to the team's passing style of play. For instance, he made nearly 2000 passes in the Premier League last season with an impressive accuracy too.

Although the North London rivals will be keen to get their hands on the impressive midfielder, Southampton will undoubtedly have a different scenario in mind.

The loss of their manager, along with the probable loss of Luke Shaw, will be alarming to supporters and the Southampton board will undoubtedly be doing everything within their power to stop a fan revolt. Therefore, I predict that it could be costly for either Tottenham or Arsenal if they want to land the Saints midfielder.
