Napoli continue their attempts to sign Javier Mascherano, but transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes they may end up signing Sandro from Tottenham.
Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is said to be desperate to be reunited with Argentine international Mascherano at Napoli, but the chances of a deal have decreased over the last fortnight.
New Barcelona boss Luis Enrique seems keen to keep Mascherano at the Camp Nou while Napoli would struggle to pay him the kind of wages he expects, so Napoli may be forced to look elsewhere.
One option is Bayern Munich holding midfielder Javi Martinez, who, like Mascherano, is believed to also be a target for Liverpool.
But a more realistic option financially may be Tottenham's Brazilian midfielder Sandro, according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Sandro has had a mixed time at White Hart Lane and while his reputation seems to have improved recently, the club seem to be willing to let him leave after a campaign that saw the 25-year-old play make just 18 appearances.
Roma have also been linked to Sandro and the player's agent, Luiz Paulo Chignall, has admitted that his client would be interested in playing in Serie A.
Other options include Mario Suarez, who is on his way out at Atletico Madrid, and Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons.
Napoli have been on the brink of signing Gonalons on several occasions but relations between the Partenopei and Lyon have reportedly become tense after some tough negotiating on both sides.
