Reported Arsenal target Eric Dier has been talking about his hopes for next season.
The defender is currently at Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, but some fine performances for England’s under-21 side have reportedly alerted Arsenal to the youngster’s talent.
Dier made 14 Primeira Liga appearances for Sporting last season, and at just 20 he is already attracting high-praise. The fact that he can play in a number of positions also makes him an attractive proposition for any potential suitors.
Primarily a centre-back he can also play right-back and in a defensive-midfield role, which could prompt Arsene Wenger to follow up his reported interest with a firm bid.
But Dier has been speaking to Sport TV in an interview later published by A Bola, and it appears he is happy where he is for now.
“Hopefully I can play as much as possible (next season),” he said. “That is the most important thing. I just want to play.
And on the fact that his current club have returned to the Champions League after a second-place finish in Portugal, Dier said, “Sporting will do the same thing as last season: thinking game by game and always giving our best to win.”
Considering that Dier simply wants to play as much as possible, Arsenal and the like may struggle to convince him to move at this stage in his career.
At just 20 he has plenty of time to take the next step. For now he is likely to simply enjoy Sporting’s return to the European elite.
