Report: Napoli and Liverpool in line for Javi Martinez

Napoli and Liverpool's summer transfer campaigns seem to be crossing paths repeatedly and both clubs are said to want Javi Martinez.

Napoli and Liverpool seem to be trying to lure Barcelona man Javier Mascherano, but the latest reports suggest Javi Martinez is seen as both sides' Plan B.

The future of ex-Liverpool man Mascherano remains a mystery but over the last few days it has looked more likely that the Argentine international could stay with Barcelona.

In that case, Napoli and Liverpool could both turn their attentions to Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Javi Martinez, according to reports in France and Italy.

Like Mascherano, Martinez is frustrated at being forced to remodel himself as a defender rather than a midfielder and could be looking for a way out of Bayern.

In Italy, it has been frequently reported that Napoli are keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old Spaniard as well as Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons as alternatives to Mascherano.

But France Football insists that Liverpool could fight Napoli for Martinez should they also choose to leave Mascherano where he is.

Liverpool appear to have a financial advantage over Napoli after a successful season at Anfield and would be able to offer Martinez a more attractive salary package.

Napoli and Liverpool are also expected to talk in the summer market about the future of goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who spent the season on loan at the Stadio San Paolo.
