Toni Kroos’ future has been at the centre of the media’s attention for much of the summer so far, but today it has taken another dramatic twist.
The Bayern Munich midfielder had been linked with a move to Manchester United, although their interest appears to have cooled after they appointed of Louis van Gaal, but it appears Chelsea have also joined the hunt to sign the play-maker.
Jose Mourinho’s men are keen on bringing Kroos to the club, but only if he becomes a free-agent, according to the Daily Mail.
Kroos’ contract at Bayern is up next season and with his future so up in the air at the moment it is still unknown as to whether he will extend his time with the Bundesliga champions or look for a move towards pastures new.
Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of players already this spring, after their last campaign ended in disappointment.
Mourinho’s men finished in third position in the Premier League and exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage and it is already evident that the charismatic manager is keen to add to his squad.
If Kroos is to sign a pre-contract agreement, he will certainly be hoping that these new additions have the desired effect and elevate Chelsea to Premier League champions.
Bayern’s dominance in Germany appears to be set to continue – even if their European showing was not quite as impressive after a demoralising defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final – so Kroos would likely be able to win more silverware if he was to stay with Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, the lure of the larger contract that Chelsea would surely offer, and which he has reportedly been hoping for at Bayern, may be enough to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.
