Mauricio Pochettino could be the first of many departures at Southampton this summer with teen sensation Luke Shaw likely to follow his former manager out the door.
Manchester United were thought to be closing in on a £27m deal for the defender, but Chelsea had supposedly launched a late bid to hijack that move.
However, according to Kevin Palmer, sports writer for the Sunday World, the only official offer for Shaw has been made by the Red Devils. Having spoken to a source at the club, he confirmed the information on his Twitter.
Former United-man, Gary Pallister, has also suggested that Shaw may snub the Dutchman's interest and choose to link up with his former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino after he took the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane.
Shaw burst onto the scene at St Mary's under the Argentinian and has subsequently forced his way into Roy Hodgson's England squad for the summer World Cup.
This news from Southampton is likely to put a number of Manchester United fans at ease. Recent reports suggesting a snag in negotiations had seemingly opened the table for other top Premier League sides. However, if the Old Trafford outfit genuinely hold the only firm offer for Shaw, this maintains their advantage in the race for his signature.
If Luke Shaw does decide to leave St. Mary’s, it is likely a deal will be agreed before England kick-off their summer campaign in Brazil on 14th July.
