Wayne Rooney: Everton wonderkid Ross Barkley is 'fantastic'!

Manchester United striker has been marvelling at gifted 20-year-old Barkley during England training sessions ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Ross Barkley, 20, enjoyed a breakout season with Everton under the tutelage of Roberto Martinez and, in the winter transfer window, was linked with a move to Manchester United.

Such media speculation may have led United striker Wayne Rooney to wonder what it would be like to train and play with the youngster likened to Paul Gascoigne and Michael Ballack.

In the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament, both players are expected to play starring roles for Roy Hodgson's England selection and Rooney believes Barkley will "light up" the tournament, according to Sky Sports.

Rooney said: "He is fantastic. Training with him and seeing him up close is great. He has got so much talent and if he gets his chance, I am sure he will do fantastic and he can light up this World Cup."

Rooney, Barkley and the rest of the Three Lions had a training camp in Portugal last week and will continue their preparations for the Brazil competition when they jet out to Florida, USA, where they challenge Ecuador and Honduras in international friendlies.
