The German right-back opted to move to Wolfsburg this summer instead of heading to England.
With Bacary Sagna’s contract expiring, right-back will be an area of real priority for Arsenal in the transfer market this summer.
A host of full-backs have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium to replace the outgoing Frenchman, with German starlet Sebastian Jung named amongst the potential candidates.
However, the former Eintracht Frankfurt defender completed a switch to Wolfsburg recently instead.
Jung has revealed that Arsenal made contact with him, but he was keen to stay in the Bundesliga.
"There were some concrete things. Arsenal was in touch and it was something to think about,” he told Kicker.
"But I was actually very clear: I wanted to stay in the Bundesliga."
Other candidates that have emerged recently to fill the void left by Sagna have included Serge Aurier, Calum Chambers and Atsuto Uchida.
Arsenal still have Carl Jenkinson in the position but need strength in depth to challenge for honours next term.
