Pochettino could keep Lamela at Tottenham

Should Mauricio Pochettino move from Southampton to Tottenham he would try and utilise Erik Lamela more, according to Italian reports.

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino and the tactician's future could affect struggling forward Erik Lamela.

Lamela arrived from Roma last summer for a club record fee of around £26m and Spurs were hoping to see the form that had dazzled Serie A.

But the Argentine international has struggled to settle in London and adapt to the tempo of the English game, not helped by a series of injury problems.

Having barely made an impression in the 2013-14 campaign, Lamela has been frequently linked with a return to Italy with Napoli, Inter and Roma reportedly interested in taking him on loan.

But the latest reports in Italy suggest that Lamela will be given a fresh start if Mauricio Pochettino takes over the hot seat.

Pochettino is edging towards moving to White Hart Lane and it is being reported that one of his first actions should he take the job would be to take compatriot Lamela off the market.

The current Southampton boss is said to be an admirer of Lamela and would relish working with him and bringing him out of his shell in the Premier League.

Tottenham could announce Pochettino as their new manager within the next 48 hours and Lamela may well be watching the latest news with interest.
