Talented centre-back Davide Astori was strongly linked with Manchester United but it seems he will join Turkish giants Galatasaray instead.
The 27-year-old has caught the attention of some big clubs with his performances for Serie A minnows Cagliari and scouts from Manchester United watched him on several occasions last season.
Astori also appeared to suggest that he would welcome a move to the Premier League in an interview a couple of months ago.
However, possibly due to the change in management, Man United seemed to take their eyes off Astori and new suitors moved in.
Rafa Benitez's Napoli seemed to be on the brink of agreeing a deal for Astori in the summer of 2013 and he would have been a useful addition for the Partenopei whose defence often looked frail last term.
The fee looks likely to be just over £6m, which is cheaper than the sum suggested when Manchester United were linked with the Italian international, who has been with Cagliari since 2008 and played 140 games there.
Tottenham, Manchester City, Everton and Southampton have also all been linked with Astori in the past but none of them have made any concrete approach.
