Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has revealed what the players can expect from Louis van Gaal in training, guided by his work under the Dutch coach with the Netherlands national team.
“Every training is very intense,” Van Persie said in The Sun.
“He [Van Gaal] is on our backs every minute. There is no space to relax, he demands full focus.”
“Everybody gets better [under Van Gaal]. If you drop your focus for a few seconds then ‘Bam’, there he is. He is typical Dutch — straight up, honest and clear,” he added.
In team news, defender Phil Jones has trained with England at St George’s Park today, after recovering sooner than expected from his shoulder injury and the young centre back is fully expected to be ready for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
The fifteen-year anniversary of United’s famous treble parade is today and Manchester Evening News looks back on the best pictures of that day in Manchester city centre.
In transfer news, United are rumoured to be linked with Bruno Martins Indi. The Feyenoord defender is currently in Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad for the World Cup and could be seen as a replacement for Nemanja Vidic or Rio Ferdinand.
Rio Ferdinand is reportedly ‘wanted’ by Tottenham and QPR after being released by United this summer after 12 years at Old Trafford.
United are also linked with another Dutch starlet in Jordy Clasie who could be a top target for Louis van Gaal along with his Feyenoord colleague Martins Indi.
The Red Devils are also reportedly eyeing Bastian Schweinsteiger of Bayern Munich as a potential target this summer to sure up their central midfield.
However, new reports suggest United will not be targeting Cesc Fabregas as had been suggested last week as Louis van Gaal is thought to not consider the Barcelona midfielder as a top priority in the market this summer.
