Brendan Rodgers has officially signed a new long term contract to remain Liverpool manager.
Rodgers is largely credited with the tremendous performance of the first team last season, engineering a position where Liverpool were able to significantly exceed their expectations for the campaign.
The main objective was always to secure Champions League football, which has been achieved, but the Reds were within touching distance of the Premier League title, narrowly missing out to Manchester City.
The new contract is reportedly a four-year deal with an improvement in terms compared to Rodgers’ old contract. Unsurprisingly, he’s delighted.
“I am both humbled and privileged to be offered the chance to extend my stay at this great club,” said the boss.
Liverpool owner John Henry also spoke on the good news, suggesting he has all the faith in the world that Rodgers is the man who should be leading the club forward over the next few years.
“We place our trust in Brendan to deliver the vision we share for Liverpool Football Club. Brendan is at the heart of what we, as an ownership group, are trying to achieve on the pitch,” said Henry in a joint statement with chairman Tom Werner.
Liverpool’s objectives for this summer and next season are something that Rodgers would have already been working very hard on.
The club needs to make significant squad changes this summer, to head into next season with a larger pool of quality players to compete on all fronts both domestic and European.
There will be a variety of challenges next year, which present Liverpool with scenarios they need to be ready for.
Teams will be a little wiser to the way that Liverpool play so it’s important for the boss to be able to reinvent the side.
