Tottenham latest, Remy could be first signing as Pochettino announced as new boss

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening.

Tottenham want to make Loic Remy their first summer signing according to the London Evening Standard, which would give early backing to Mauricio Pochettino – who was today appointed the new Head Coach on five-year deal.

Remy has a clause in his contract at parent club Queens Park Rangers which means he can be bought for just over £8m but there are several clubs said to be interested in the Frenchman, who scored 14 Premier League goals during his loan spell at Newcastle United this season.

Former assistant boss Kevin Bond told TalkSport this morning that he thinks it is a bit of a gamble to appoint the Argentinian.

He said: “It is a difficult situation at Tottenham, for whoever comes in. Although it is going to be said that they are going to be given time, if you have a horrendous start to the season you are going to be under pressure, no matter who you are.

“In fairness, they were fantastic last year, Southampton, so I can see why Tottenham would be interested in him.”

A transfer rumour that will raise a few eyebrows that has been reported by the Daily Mirror is the prospect of Rio Ferdinand joining Tottenham.

Ferdinand is out of contract after a successful 12 years at Manchester United, who decided not to offer the 35-year-old a new deal.

The report states that sources close to Ferdinand say that he wants to move back to London – and Spurs are winning the race to sign him.
