The 2014 World Cup finals are just around the corner and a certain former Arsenal star is looking forward to the gala tournament.
Johan Djourou was on the books of Arsenal for over 10 years, but his long association with the club came to an end this campaign. Having joined Hamburg on loan from the Gunners last summer, the 27-year-old made the move permanent this year and will remain with the German outfit until June 2016.
Having failed to make a really big impact at the Emirates Stadium, he appears to found his rhythm in Germany. During the 2013-14 Bundesliga campaign, Djourou started no fewer than 22 league games, helping Hamburg stave off relegation in the process. His performances have helped him become a key player for the club and he himself appears to be back on his feet.
The displays of Djourou, who is a versatile player and can feature in midfield as well as in defence, saw him retain his place in the Switzerland national team. An injury to his neck on the final day of the Bundesliga season cast doubts on his fitness, but the former Arsenal defender has fully recovered and is preparing for the World Cup.
On his Instagram page, Djourou posted a picture of him wearing a suit with the message: ‘Checking the last details on the suit for the world cup, what do you think ? Hahahah’. Then on Tuesday morning, he posted a picture of his new boots.

It is clear that Djourou is fully fit and is gearing up for the World Cup in Brazil which starts next month. Switzerland have been drawn against Ecuador, France and Honduras in Group E, and will be looking to make it through to the last 16.
